BOX-IT

500 WORDS:

Throughout the semester, our group developed an idea for a device that allows individuals to send and receive items using a futuristic metal box and through the use of teleportation, it is called BOX-IT. We discovered that although postage has developed through the years and some stores now allow same-day and next day delivery, it was not able to allow individuals to receive their purchased goods instantly. As a group we explored that through the use of the shared economy, there was an opportunity for an idea to be developed that would allow individuals to be connected with one another instantly. Moreover, the teleportation element of BOX-IT would allow individuals to become more connected with family, friends and strangers from all over the world, within seconds.

The use of BOX-IT would be simple, individuals would purchase the BOX-IT online, it would then be delivered to them, they would purchase the app online and use the code found on their BOX-IT, this code would then be scanned so that their app and their BOX-IT would be connected. Individuals would then browse the array of stores on the BOX-IT app and make purchase. After the purchase was made, the item would then immediately appear within their BOX-IT through the use of teleportation.

Our project, relates to the transportation of objects, similar to postage which is how individuals currently receive items that they purchase online and send to one another. So I decided to make a Prezi to demonstrate the timeline of postage both in Australia and the world, in order to establish how BOX-IT was the next development in the mailing of items. The research behind the history of postage was more difficult then I had first anticipated, there was very limited sites that conveyed credible sources and dates, however once I gained a date and corresponding event I would then cross check with multiple other websites in order to ensure that the information was correct. Over time, I managed to arrange the main parts in history along with images and some old commercials in order to form my digital artefact. I aimed to make the presentation flow and focused on gaining aesthetic and relevant images along with credible dates and events. The Prezi is made of 32 slides, which complies 16 main slides and 16 subtopic slides. There are also 2-3 images per main slide that allows the individual to gain a wider scope into the event.

Overall, the aim of my digital artefact was to demonstrate the innovation and developments within postage and establish how BOX-IT was a necessary opportunity that would allow individuals to become part of the shared economy within society. BOX-IT will change the way that postage is undertaken and I believe will positivity impact the functioning of society. This is because it will allow individuals to send items to loved ones living overseas, or allow long distance couples to feel more connected to one another instantly, rather than having to wait days, weeks or months.
